How to use Traktor DJ Studio with only one stereo sound card
For DJing with Traktor you normally need 2 stereo outputs. One for your decks and one for your headphones. Or one for each deck, if you are using an external mixer. Most laptops only have one line-out, so in order to use Traktor properly you would have to buy an (exepnsive) USB or Firewire soundcard. There is a cheap way around this, if you have an external mixer and mono output is sufficient for your needs. This is how to do it:
1. Buy a Y-cable that splits your 3.5mm sound card output into two - you now have the same stereo signal coming out of two cables. Now take one output from each cable and plug them into one channel of your mixer. Same with the remaining two.

2. Start Traktor and open the setup dialog (top right corner). Go to ‘Audio’ and enable ‘External Mixer’. Set Deck A output to channel 1 and Deck B to channel 2 of your sound card as shown in the screenshot.

3. Plug your headphones into your mixer.
That’s it. Now each of your two Traktor decks go into one channel of your mixer and you can cue your tracks using the controls of your hardware mixer.
